Hello! Today you will learn how to create your first printable. Also, what software you will need to create them.
Now days technology is so advanced. It's easy to create things with a click of a button. Including digital printables.
There are many who are intimated by creating printables and don't even try. They think you have to be an artist to make them and become intimated. Like I said earlier. With technology it's never been easier.
I'm sure by now you must have heard of canva.com. If not, it's okay. Canva is a design website that is also available on the App Store. You can easily design with Canva's easy-to-use templates. It includes thousands of stock images and graphics.
As a graphic designer I use Canva for social media graphics and more, Especially if you need to design something quickly.
Canva's stock graphics make it so much easier to create printables. You just have to drag and drop some cool illustrations and add the text. Of course, you need to start with an idea before making a design, which we'll talk about later in this post.
There is a free and pro version of Canva. With the free version you still can create some awesome designs. Investing in the pro version will definitely be a great benefit. You have no restrictions and access to all its features.
My favorite feature is the image background remover. It's as easy as clicking a button. I remember how much time I would spend on Photoshop to remove a background from a photo. This is especially useful if you want to use photos in a printable.
Aside from Canva, there are many other platforms. You can use PicMonkey, Kittl, Adobe Spark, and many more.
I personally use Inkscape. It's free. There is a learning curve if you haven't used the software before.
Of course there's Photoshop. Still a fan favorite.
Now for the process of creating your content.
- First, you need an idea. Think of a topic. Write down key words related to it. for example, dieting. Use words like: avocado, smoothie, healthy snack bars, oranges, and grapefruit. You get the idea.
- Then you need inspiration. You can always check out printest to see the design style or layouts you might want to create.
- You will now need a mood board. What is that? You ask. It's a collection of photos or designs you looked at on Pinterest. Group them together on one page for inspiration. It will help you find the direction of the design you want to make.
- The final step and the most important one. Is to sketch. You heard me right! I'm sure you thinking I can't draw. You don't have to draw perfectly or create the design. Just sketching of the where the layout of your design. Knowing where things will be positioned will help you be organised and work faster.
So remember with these steps. It doesn't matter what software or app your using. The idea is where all the magic begins.
In conclusion
You will learn the process of creating the idea when designing your printables. Also what you software to create your designs in.
