Hi there, readers, Recently, I've been getting into using Adobe Express. Exploring a lot of different design apps, especially the free versions. So I will tell you why you should be using Abode Express instead of Canva.
Why you should make the switch to Adobe Express
Using the free version
Canva is awesome, and the free version works just as well. Canva has a ton of new features to make designing look great, but a lot of them are only available in the paid version. Using Adobe Express the other day, I imported a photo of myself and used the background remover option; to my surprise, it was free to use. You would normally have to pay for these features. Another great feature is that you can export your PNG images with a transparent background in the free version. Of course, the free version has limited access to stock images and graphics, just like Canva, but on the upside, all graphics and images within the app are owned by Adobe Stock, so you don't have to worry about third-party copyright issues.
The app experience
One of the main reasons I moved from Canva to Adobe Express was that the app performed better. Sometimes in Canva, my app will lag or take really long to load templates and graphics. I didn't have this issue with the Adobe Express app despite having a slow Internet connection.
Copyright issues
There is a lot of confusion when it comes to Canva license agreements when using designs for print on demand. It's unclear if you even have the right to sell graphics you created for commercial use. So I did a little research on Adobe Express and read their license agreements. They allow you to use designs for t-shirts and print on demand.
Here's a link to read more about the license for print on demand.
The interface
The user interface is quite straight forward and simple to use. Here are some screen shots of the mobile device I use for displaying menu features.
Text: You have access to different fonts from the Adobe library.
Design assets: this allows you to find graphics and illustrations for your designs.
Photos: This allows you to import your own images or graphics into the app to edit, modify, or create a montage or collage.
Shapes: This is where you will find basic shapes like squares, circles, and so on. There are also a lot more complex shapes and icons to use in your designs or logos.
Backgrounds: This is where you can search for photos and images to use as backgrounds. You can even use it to find stock photos in general.
Logos: I'm not sure what it is since this feature is in the premium version. I'm testing out the free one.
Pages: You can add multiple pages to any project. What I love about the pages feature is that when you create a new page, it will ask you the size of the page or show you a list of template page sizes you want to use. In Canva, each page size would be the same. In Adobe Express, for one project, you can have different page sizes for each page. For example, Instagram posts, stories, Facebook posts, stories, Twitter, LinkedIn, and more in one project in the free version
What is lacking on the mobile app?
At the moment, you can't export files as PDF on the mobile app, only on the desktop, but they have stated all the new features are coming soon.
Conclusion
If you're looking for a great alternative to Canva, consider using Adobe Express. Their free version is just as good as Canvas free version. You will learn what amazing features Adobe Express has, from their great fonts to their photo and graphics libraries. So why not give it a try?
